Ecological Education

We spoke in class about how it isn't uncommon for children to learn more on their walk to school than at school. In the US, the amount of school children who walk to school has drastically fallen in recent decades. This article mentions that, although safer routes to schools and shorter distances are needed, more parents need to let their children walk to school. Although the fact that less children are walking to school is disconcerting, this data points to a bigger problem. "Car culture" in general has limited our experiences with the outdoors, and in turn that ecological knowledge that we all can learn "on our way to school" so to speak.
awesome video

I think this video is a great example of how we can learn on our way to school if we don't close ourselves off in cars, plus this video is straight up incredible! If we allow ourselves and our children to get outside and informally learn about ecology, we can better get in touch with that elusive Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
